100 days

Hey all,

I’m super pumped about your call Boo! It’s going to be such a great experience for you!

My week was pretty good, alothough it’s kinda boring to write about. We did lots of good contacting downtown. Had district council. Prepped zone conferences. Played basketball with nonmembers and got them into our English class, which is going well. Had a great time with General Conference, loved tons of the talks. Didn’t find anyone new yet, although we’ll see with the English class if we can start teaching someone. Monday we drove up to Moncton and I got to do some finding there. Stayed in a hotel for the night, which was super nice. Tuesday was a good zone conference and then drive back to Halifax. It was really nice to just chat with the Lows on the drive.  Today we went shopping and cleaned the car. Had a meeting about the English class. Going to the class later today. Tonight I’ll get to see Elder Olsen, he’s staying with us for zone conference.

We spend most of our time on proselytizing and teaching and working to find people. Definitely have plenty of time we do administrative stuff too though. It’s a good balance.

We still have two more zone conferences. One tomorrow for Nova Scotia. One on Saturday for Newfoundland. We’re training on area book, which kinda sucks. We made it a good training, but it still would have been nice to do something more inspiring.

I haven’t taken tons of photos. It’s hard to know what I will want in the future, mostly I have photos of people that I know or care about. I took one of the snow today. BTW we still have snow. We got a snow storm the other day. Before that Halifax had no snow. Moncton still had lots.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes recently. It's from Elder Andersen, from a mission president seminar. He says, “Some may say that baptisms are not determined by the missionary because it is a moral choice that every investigator must make. There is truth in that statement, but there is also truth in this one: There is a power that can cause things to happen that need to happen. There is a spiritual force that can stir a mortal soul toward the spiritual, motivating deeper study into the Book of Mormon and more prayer with real intent. Faith is a power, and it can cause things to happen that need to happen. It can cause a soul who is good but dormant to awaken to God."

I love that one so much. I hear missionaries make the excuse of, “Oh they have agency, so we couldn’t do anything.” There’s so much missionaries can do! We’re here to exercise faith. The church could reach out to so many people by buying ads. But they don’t because there’s no faith in an ad.

Love you all so much!

Got my travel plans!

Bonjour tout le monde!        This has been a crazy week! We've been super busy with lessons, we have had two or three lessons a day, and lots of really good devotionals.  On Sunday , we had Chad Lewis come and talk, and that was really cool. He talked about his mission, his career, his chance to do this hike up Kilimanjaro with a bunch of wounded soldiers from Iraq, kinda all over the place. It was more like a slide show than the kind of devotionals before. It was still good, but I definitely preferred Elder Oaks. We watched A Consecrated Missionary, by Tad Callister, for our film after, it was really good. I really love the  Sunday  films, gunna miss that in the field.         I also finally meet some other people going to Halifax! There are 4 sisters, and one other Elder, I'll be flying out with them on the 26th. I'm pretty sure I get to call you guys before I leave the airport on my flight, but I think they talk about t...

First few days!

First few days are down, and it's going good! When I got here I went straight to a lesson in French, and six hours of lessons later I'm supposed to teach a lesson in complete French to an investigator, write a talk in French, and memorize the missionary purpose statement.  Our zone has about 60 missionaries, most speaking French, going to Lyon, France, but some to Paris as well. There are a lot of Haitian Creole speaking missionaries, and some Malagasy speaking missionaries as well. Two are going to New Caledonia (discussed below). I'm the only one going to Canada, let alone going to Halifax.         My companion is Elder Hable (like table but with an H) and he's really good. He's going to New Caledonia, which is by Australia. He took French for 6 years, and he's by far the best of our district so far. He likes baseball, favorite team is the Red Sox, so that's a plus, (Raelene) and is really kind to everyone. He got made the District leader last night, s...

Another week!

Hey, So like I said, I'm in Fredericton now. It's a good sized ward for New Brunswick, but I got a reminder on Sunday how that's still quite a bit smaller than wards around the world. This woman was visiting from Alberta, and bore her testimony in fast and testimony meeting, and she started out saying how she was grateful for the "branch" and its testimonies. Most of the members are pretty cool. There's the most young families I've ever seen here. A lot of the members are very funny too! We just got a new ward mission leader, he's from the Phillipines, and he's super awesome. He's been doing a lot of work to increase the members desire and expectation to share the gospel. I really hope I can see a lot of that growth change the ward. We only have one investigator right now, Jacob, an 11 year old son of a less active, who we're working with to reactivate. He's pretty excited about it, but he didn't come to church this Sund...
