Stake conference

Hey all,

Man, it looks like you’re having a great time in DC! Also, that schedule looks great too. I know lots of people who have said morning classes stink, but I think it would be totally the other way around, morning would be way better. Do I not have a math class? I mean I figure I’ll use math in Econ, but I would have thought I would have needed some math.

This week’s been pretty crazy. So this last week has been pretty busy because we’ve been trying to get ready for our devotional and everything, Elder Hamilton did agree to come and speak to everyone, which was super cool. (He’s super nice and cool, he talked with everyone who came for probably 30 minutes just getting to know them.) We made invitations for everyone, and we had like 20 people commit to come. The day of the event though, 2 people showed up at the start, and 2 more came during it. It was kinda disappointing so few people came, but it was super spiritual for the people who came. It was definitely worth it. Elder Hamilton told us that apparently time is something totally different to people in Africa than it is here, people just show up whenever and that’s just when they come, there’s not really any urgency to get somewhere. It’s kinda fascinating.

Stake conference was super good. President Glanfield gave a super good talk all about the gathering of Israel. I’m putting some of my notes from it here. Elder Hamilton talked all about repentance, which was super good. He shared this story of Andy, his friend from his home ward, and how he took 2 steps forward and 1.8 steps back, and how he slowly crawled for years towards the Melkezidek priesthood. It was super good, it went right along with President Nelson’s.

Saturday was good too, because it was full of finding. As of right now, we have been giving all of our investigators and potentials to the other elders, and while we were finding, we set up 4 lessons for them, which was fun. I love being a part of the Lord's work.

Love you all! Have a great trip. Sorry it’s short, we went seaglassing again!

Notes from conference:

Stake conference

President Glanfield
One difference in our ministering compared to simple neighbourly help is that we do so under covenant.

One of the first things Lehi finds in the brass plates is his relationship to Jospeh, son of Jacob (Israel) who was saved by the hand of the Lord to preserve and save his father and brothers from famine. His first thing he mentioned was his connection to the covenants of the fathers, that he had covenant responsibilities to help others
There’s a type in this:
I’m a descendant of Joseph, saved by the hand of the Lord to rescue and gather and preserve the rest of the house of Israel

Got my travel plans!

Bonjour tout le monde!        This has been a crazy week! We've been super busy with lessons, we have had two or three lessons a day, and lots of really good devotionals.  On Sunday , we had Chad Lewis come and talk, and that was really cool. He talked about his mission, his career, his chance to do this hike up Kilimanjaro with a bunch of wounded soldiers from Iraq, kinda all over the place. It was more like a slide show than the kind of devotionals before. It was still good, but I definitely preferred Elder Oaks. We watched A Consecrated Missionary, by Tad Callister, for our film after, it was really good. I really love the  Sunday  films, gunna miss that in the field.         I also finally meet some other people going to Halifax! There are 4 sisters, and one other Elder, I'll be flying out with them on the 26th. I'm pretty sure I get to call you guys before I leave the airport on my flight, but I think they talk about t...

First few days!

First few days are down, and it's going good! When I got here I went straight to a lesson in French, and six hours of lessons later I'm supposed to teach a lesson in complete French to an investigator, write a talk in French, and memorize the missionary purpose statement.  Our zone has about 60 missionaries, most speaking French, going to Lyon, France, but some to Paris as well. There are a lot of Haitian Creole speaking missionaries, and some Malagasy speaking missionaries as well. Two are going to New Caledonia (discussed below). I'm the only one going to Canada, let alone going to Halifax.         My companion is Elder Hable (like table but with an H) and he's really good. He's going to New Caledonia, which is by Australia. He took French for 6 years, and he's by far the best of our district so far. He likes baseball, favorite team is the Red Sox, so that's a plus, (Raelene) and is really kind to everyone. He got made the District leader last night, s...

Transfers!

Hey all, Happy Father's day! Hope you had a good one dad + grandpa's. I didn't know if you would've wanted to waste part of your trip to DC calling me, so I didn't try calling. Besides, I want you all to actually be glad I'm home when I get back.  So you're right, my p-day does get messed up because of transfers, but the majority of it was on Monday (not Tuesday) and the rest today (Wednesday). It's ok though because I do have enough time to write some. (This whole week has been so busy I don't even know if I could include everything that's gone down.) We'll start with zone conference. Elder Hamilton didn't have enough time in his schedule to go to Newfoundland, and so we combined the Newfoundland and Nova Scotia zone conference. It was really good, Elder and Sister Hamilton gave some fantastic training, as well as President and Sister Low. I don't know if I've told you about this, but in our zone conferences we normal...
